Calliope's Table is part of a an open collective of farmers, gardeners, land-lenders, people that like to cook, people that
like to eat, and people that want to be part of creating cooperative-style neighborhood groups interested in
helping ourselves and others eat healthier, better tasting food.
We're working to bring people together in their neighborhoods and help them reconnect with locally-grown food and each other.
By helping to form cooperative arrangements for growing food, sharing the harvest, CSA memberships, farmers markets,
skill sharing, and potlucks, our aim is to create
neighborhood foodsheds.
We consider our methods and practices to go "Beyond Organic" as we hold ourselves to higher standards than organic certification currently does.
By using practices from Biodynamic Agriculture, Integrated Pest Management, and Permaculture, we think what we do contributes more to embracing earth-friendly, people-friendly practices
than being certified to the current organic standards. We work to improve and increase soil health, bee and bird habitat, and plant diversity wherever we farm.
We focus on growing quality heirloom varieties of vegetables, fruits and herbs using non-hybrid, open-pollinated
seed wherever possible. During the 2009 season we grew well over 100 different varieties of vegetables, fruit and herbs and are planning
to further increase the variety in the 2010 season.
We grow for seed saving as well as for produce, to assure seed stock for future seasons, develop and select new varieties adapted to our
local area, preserve diversity in our food supply, and hold down costs.
We embrace alternative forms of commerce such as barter and sharing arrangements.
We'd love for you to join us, and help us grow and shape this idea. What are you looking for in food? A CSA share,
places to garden, places to cook, places to share food with others, or to help promote urban agriculture?
Bring your gifts to share and your desire to learn. Everyone has some piece of what's needed to do this.
Have you got some good energy, support, growing spaces, a green thumb, a gift for
cooking, a flair for organizing, or an appetite for good food?
